Eclectic Shed Roof
History below but IF YOU CAN PUT ME ON TO A SOURCE OF BRUSHABLE SILICONE PAINT I WOULD BE MOST GRATEFUL
In 2000 the process of selaing the joint between the fire cement apex stable roof and the corrugated iron lean-to roof began.
The ridges in the fire cement roof were filled with expanding foam and the joint was painted with Acrypol paint, an exellent and reassuringly expensive product which doesn’t quite cope with the movement created when the rain-bearing winds cause the corrugated iron roof to flex.
After several goes with Acrypol it was time to try something else - bituminous paint. Better but tantalisingly not quite leakproof. Also, it seems to degrade quickly in sunlight.
Last month a test section of the joint was painted from a five year old (but unopened) tub of Bond-it Easiseal SiliconePaint. Last week we had hefty winds and half an inch of rain in half a day and the roof was almost watertight.
The thinking is that the silicone paint forms a sufficiently flexible waterproof membrane which sticks well to all the surfaces involved. Obviously it’s too early to know how it responds to sunshine.
